Selected projects

33 years of turning brands into experiences

Since 1993, B&W Productions has produced more than 10,000 events and 150,000 brand executions across South Africa — from stadium concerts and national brand activations to intimate corporate functions. We were named Top Event Supplier 2025 by South African Breweries. Below are eight signature projects, told the way we brief them internally: what the client actually needed, what we built, and why it mattered.

Castle Lite

Castle Lite Ice Bar

Immersive brand activation · Manufacture, cold-chain and crowd flow

The brief

Castle Lite is built on one promise — extra cold. The brief was to make that promise physical: a space consumers could walk into and feel, rather than a message they read on a poster. Everything about the build had to reinforce cold, hold up under continuous public traffic and still look brand-perfect at the end of a long trading day.

What we delivered

  • Concept development and design of a walk-in, sub-zero bar environment with sculpted installations as the hero feature.
  • In-house manufacture of the structure, bar counters and branded refreshment zones in our own workshop, so tolerances and finishes stayed under our control.
  • A controlled cold-chain environment engineered to hold temperature with doors opening constantly and bodies moving through the space.
  • Crowd-flow planning, staffing and on-site management for sustained high foot traffic, plus daily reset so every session opened in showroom condition.

Why it mattered

A repeatable activation asset that translates an abstract product claim into a sensory experience — the kind of build that gets photographed and shared by the people standing in it, which is exactly where activation value compounds.

Redd’s

Redd’s Unleash the Carnival

Travelling street carnival · Multi-city rollout

The brief

Take a carnival to the street — and then do it again in the next city, and the next, without the show degrading. The hard part of a travelling activation is not the first build; it is the tenth, when the crew is tired, the load-in is unfamiliar and the audience still expects the same spectacle.

What we delivered

  • A custom-built main stage designed to break down, travel and re-rig inside a tight turnaround window.
  • Live performance programming — drummers and dancers — choreographed to work in open public space rather than a controlled venue.
  • Sound, lighting and power for outdoor conditions, with our own fleet handling transport, load-in and strike between cities.
  • Route and venue liaison in each city, including the permissions and on-the-ground logistics that street-level activation demands.

Why it mattered

Public spaces converted into a travelling spectacle across multiple South African cities, with a consistent brand experience city to city — the operational discipline behind a multi-city rollout is the deliverable as much as the creative is.

Castle Lager

Castle Lager live stage production

Main-stage build · Technical production and site management

The brief

Large-format live events give you no second take. The stage has to be structurally sound, the branding has to read from the back of the crowd, and the technical package has to survive a full day of performances and weather.

What we delivered

  • Full main-stage build with rigging, engineered for the load of a live performance programme and fully carrying Castle Lager branding.
  • Sound and lighting design and supply, specified to the site rather than pulled off a standard package sheet.
  • On-site production management from load-in to load-out, including crew scheduling and contractor coordination.
  • Brand-integration detail across stage surrounds and audience-facing surfaces, so the sponsor reads in photography and broadcast frames.

Why it mattered

A stage that performs technically and works as a branding asset at the same time — the reason a brand keeps coming back to the same production partner for its flagship live properties, including work around Castle Lager Braai Day.

SAB · Distell · Unilever

National tavern and trade campaigns

Grassroots to national activation · Promoter management and reporting

The brief

Tavern and trade activation is the least glamorous and most operationally demanding work in South African marketing. Hundreds of outlets, informal environments, cash-handling realities, and a brand standard that has to hold in every single one of them.

What we delivered

  • Execution of some of the most recognised trade campaigns in the country — SAB Price It Right, Castle Lite BSO’s, OMO activations and the Distell Bansela Bonanza.
  • Promoter recruitment, training and day-to-day management, with compliance audits built into the rollout rather than bolted on afterwards.
  • Branded tavern kit supplied and installed — furniture, sound and fridges included — so the outlet keeps carrying the brand after the activation team leaves.
  • Consumer sampling mechanics and campaign reporting that gives the brand team outlet-level visibility of what actually happened on the ground.

Why it mattered

Grassroots reach at national scale, with the reporting discipline brand teams need to defend the spend — and tavern loyalty programme events that keep working between activation cycles.

NBA

NBA arena activation

Arena-scale fan experience · Branded production and fan zones

The brief

Bring an international sports property to a South African arena audience, in a way that feels like the real thing rather than a licensed approximation — and do it in a venue where the fan experience has to work for a packed house moving in one direction at once.

What we delivered

  • Arena-scale branded production, built to the sight lines and circulation realities of the venue.
  • Stage lighting and technical package supporting the entertainment programme around the main event.
  • Interactive fan zones designed for throughput — engagement that works when there is a queue behind every participant.
  • Full on-site management across build, show days and strike.

Why it mattered

An arena-scale fan activation for a packed house, delivered to an international brand’s standards in a local venue — the type of production that proves a South African partner can hold a global property.

International concerts

Concert production and stadium bar infrastructure

Concert and touring support · Bar infrastructure at scale

The brief

International touring shows arrive with a fixed rider and no tolerance for improvisation. The local partner’s job is to make its specialist component invisible — it either works exactly as specified, or it becomes the story.

What we delivered

  • Concert and touring production support stretching back to Hansa Pilsner productions in the 1990s.
  • Contributions to major shows including Pharrell Williams at Standard Bank Arena and Usher at Orlando Stadium in 2019, working in collaboration with a number of other agencies.
  • More than a decade on Castle Lite Unlocks — a run that has brought artists such as Post Malone, Kanye West and Travis Scott to South African stages.
  • High-volume, fully branded bar infrastructure at major concerts, frequently delivered in collaboration through AB InBev — the beverage operation that keeps a stadium crowd served all night.

Why it mattered

A track record of being brought in for one specialist part of a much bigger show and delivering it to a standard the rest of the production can rely on — which is why the calls keep coming from the same promoters and brand teams.

FIFA World Cup 2026

Global football fan experiences

Fan-experience production · Very high visitor volumes

The brief

Football’s biggest global stage brings volumes that break anything built to normal event tolerances. Every surface, queue line and service point has to be specified for continuous use by very large numbers of people.

What we delivered

  • Large-scale fan-experience and activation production tied to the tournament environment.
  • Branded environments engineered for very high visitor volumes, with materials and finishes chosen for endurance rather than a single photo call.
  • Throughput-led layout planning so engagement mechanics keep moving instead of collapsing into a bottleneck.
  • Logistics, staffing and maintenance planning across an extended run rather than a single event day.

Why it mattered

Fan environments built to survive tournament-scale traffic — work that sits at the top end of what experiential production has to withstand in this market.

Branded vehicles

The Fan Bus and mobile experiences

Mobile activation assets · Nationwide reach

The brief

A fixed activation only reaches the people who come to it. The brief behind our mobile work is the inverse: take the activation to the audience, in places where building a structure would never be viable.

What we delivered

  • Custom branded vehicles built and finished in-house, including the ABSA-branded double-decker fan bus.
  • Mobile fan experiences designed to set up, trade and pack down at each stop without a supporting build crew on site.
  • Nationwide routing and logistics run off our own fleet, so schedules are not hostage to third-party transport.
  • Brand wrap, interior fit-out and on-board engagement mechanics as a single package.

Why it mattered

Campaign reach extended well beyond a single venue — activation assets that keep working across a route rather than on one day in one city.

How the work happens

Every project above ran through the same four stages

An Ice Bar and a tavern campaign look nothing alike, but they are produced the same way. Owning the manufacture, the décor, the technical kit and the trucks is what lets us hold a deadline when something changes three days out — and something always changes three days out.

01

Brief and feasibility

We start with what the event has to achieve, not what it should look like. Budget envelope, audience numbers, venue constraints and non-negotiables get established first, because those are what decide whether a creative idea is buildable.

02

Concept and costing

Visual concept, technical specification and a line-item budget in one document. Because manufacture, décor, sound, lighting, staffing and transport sit in-house, the number we quote is mostly our own cost base rather than a stack of supplier mark-ups.

03

Build and pre-production

Bespoke elements are built in our own 2,000 m² warehouse. Permits, compliance and safety documentation, venue liaison and crew scheduling run in parallel so nothing is discovered on build day.

04

Delivery and strike

Our own fleet of 10+ trucks handles load-in and strike. A B&W production manager owns the site from first vehicle to final sweep, and the venue is handed back the way we found it — which is why venues recommend us to their own clients.

Who we produce for

The client relationships behind the work

More than 500 corporate clients have come through B&W Productions since 1993. These are the relationships that shaped how we work — most of them measured in years rather than single projects.

South African Breweries

One of our longest-standing relationships, spanning national trade campaigns such as Price It Right, brand activation rollouts and internal corporate and year-end functions. SAB named B&W Productions its Top Event Supplier in 2025.

AB InBev

A large share of our concert work now comes through AB InBev, where we collaborate on the bar infrastructure at major concerts — high-volume, fully branded beverage operations delivered inside someone else’s show.

Castle Lite

The Ice Bar activation, Castle Lite BSO’s in trade, and more than a decade of involvement in Castle Lite Unlocks — the property that has brought international headline artists to South African stages.

Castle Lager

Main-stage builds, technical production and brand integration for large-format live events, including work around Castle Lager Braai Day.

Distell

Trade and tavern campaign execution, most visibly the Bansela Bonanza — promoter management, branded outlet kit and outlet-level campaign reporting.

Unilever

OMO activations in trade, plus corporate and year-end function production for internal audiences.

ABSA

Branded mobile activation assets including the double-decker fan bus, alongside corporate event and year-end function production.

MTV · GSK · Powerade

Brands on our client roster whose work sits across corporate events and brand activations — the everyday production work that never makes a showreel but is where most of a 33-year record actually accumulates.

If your brand is not on this list yet, the useful next step is a brief rather than a meeting. Send us what the event has to achieve and we will come back with a concept, a technical specification and a line-item budget — start here, or read how we structure a production first.
