What Makes a Good Conference Venue
Before you shortlist, define your non-negotiables. A good conference venue delivers on five fronts:
- Capacity in the right layout. A room that seats 200 theatre-style may only take 80 in classroom format. Always confirm your preferred layout, not just “maximum capacity”.
- Built-in AV. Projector, screen, sound system, roving and lectern microphones. If the venue charges separately for every item, factor that into your comparison — it can double the room-hire cost.

Rosebank & Melrose
A growing alternative to Sandton with boutique hotels and converted commercial spaces offering more character and slightly lower rates. Rosebank is walkable, well-served by the Gautrain, and works well for conferences of 50–300 delegates who want a less “corporate campus” feel.
Midrand & Kyalami
Midrand sits halfway between Johannesburg and Pretoria, making it a compromise venue for cross-city conferences. The Kyalami corridor offers larger floor-plate venues — expo centres, race-circuit function rooms, and estate-style conference lodges — suited to events of 200+ where parking and outdoor breakout space matter.
Pretoria Conference Venues
Pretoria offers strong value compared to Johannesburg, with newer infrastructure and significantly less traffic congestion for evening events.
Centurion

Hatfield & University Precinct

Cape Town Conference Venues
Cape Town is the go-to for incentive conferences, board retreats, and any event where the setting is part of the sell.
CBD & Waterfront
The Cape Town International Convention Centre (CTICC) anchors the city’s large-format conferencing. For mid-size conferences (50–500), the V&A Waterfront hotel cluster offers modern venues with harbour views and walkable restaurants. Day-delegate rates are comparable to Sandton but include a setting that photographs considerably better.
Century City & Northern Suburbs

Durban Conference Venues
