It runs on exclusive in-house catering, which keeps quality predictable but takes menu control out of our hands - we push hard on tastings early. The Foreshore address means delegates walk from the Westin over the sky bridge and the CBD hotel pool absorbs any room block. Built on reclaimed industrial land
The CTICC was built from 2001 on redeveloped Foreshore industrial land in central Cape Town and opened on 28 June 2003. The R900-million CTICC 2 expansion followed in January 2018, effectively doubling the complex. Over its first two decades, the CTICC contributed R53.2 billion to South Africa's GDP — a return that few public infrastructure investments in the country can match.

CTICC 1 offers approximately 11,200 m² of exhibition space plus auditoriums of 1,500 and 620 seats. CTICC 2 added 31,148 m² more. The combined complex can run multiple large-format events simultaneously, which is why it routinely hosts overlapping conferences and exhibitions without operational conflict.
Famous moments
The final draw of the 2010 FIFA World Cup happened here in December 2009. The CTICC is the permanent home of Mining Indaba — Africa's biggest mining investment event, drawing 12,000+ delegates annually. It hosted 2023 Netball World Cup matches, opened South Africa's G20 presidency with the first Finance Ministers' meeting in February 2025, and in June 2024 South Africa's Parliament held the first sitting of its seventh democratic Parliament here — the President was elected in a conference centre.

In 2024, the CTICC hosted 58 international association meetings — 60% of the entire country's total. That dominance in the international association market means Cape Town's convention centre punches well above its weight against Johannesburg and Durban competitors.
Right now
The City of Cape Town proposed selling its 72.7% stake in the CTICC for R885 million in August 2025 — the proposal is politically contested and unresolved. Regardless of ownership, the venue continues to operate at capacity and remains the default address for international conferences choosing South Africa.
